I've come across a scam/malicious .au website. What do I do?

Please note that auDA does not have the authority to remove .au websites that are hosts to phishing scams, malware or malicious content.

Depending on the nature of the content or issue, the authorities listed below have the jurisdiction to handle such complaints or are able to provide an appropriate referral:

  • SCAMwatch - which is managed by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC)
  • The ACCC also have an Shopping online section on their website should you wish to make a complaint about an online vendor
  • More information about consumer-related issues can be found at The Australian Consumer Law website
  • Information about reporting security-related incidents can be found at the CERT Australia website

In many circumstances, the Registrant of the .au domain name in question may not be aware that their website has been compromised. You can use the .au WHOIS tool to email the Registrant contact and hopefully alert them of the issue.
