Subject to meeting the policy rules, domain names are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Domain names in the .au namespace are governed by policy rules that cover two main areas:
- Eligibility - which entities are eligible for a domain name?
- Allocation - what names may be allocated to eligible entities?
The policy rules vary for each second level domain.
For more information, see auDA's Domain Name Eligibility and Allocation Policy Rules for the Open 2LDs and the Guidelines on the Interpretation of Policy Rules for Open 2LDs.
